John Cameron was reared in the Sand Hills of North Carolina; educated at Davidson College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from which he received a PhD in European History.
He is a Vietnam Era veteran having served in the US Army at the Kennedy Special Warfare School attaining the rank of Captain.
He has lived and worked in Lafayette, Louisiana; Brooklyn New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Norfolk, Virginia.
Founder of the Mermaid Playwrights' Theatre in Philadelphia, his plays have been performed in Louisiana, New York and Philadelphia.
He has published widely over several decades on French history, American history, contemporary politics, theatre and food. At present he is researching and writing on the American Civil War, the French Revolution and the History of Medicine. He leads discussions and lectures at Old Dominion University.
